Through The Lens of Bill Goodman

Photographers are our eyes & insight into what’s going on around us. Their pictures are powerful. Not only do they help to give us a looking in view to a story, but they also tell a story all on their own. When thoughtfully incorporated into the news, photos evoke emotion, add context & bring clarity with their precision & honesty. Photography also shapes & molds our universe. It moves its audience, shines light into the darkest of places, breaks down barriers & provokes thought. In the world of media, photos can make or break a story, thus positioning photojournalism as a vital craft in & of itself. Images don’t warp or age but instead almost immortalize the subject. They can speak visual language to our hearts, keep a memory alive, hold a moment in history for future generations & serve as inspiration in a personal way.

My grandfather made an impact on my life early on which has left a lasting impression that is so profound. As a child I looked up to him & was inspired by the way he viewed the world through the lens of his camera. Some of my fondest memories consist of thumbing about his photo books with immersed fascination, gazing with wonderment at a string of shots pinned up to dry that he had just developed & staring with awe at the carefully displayed images from his time as a photographer. Those still moments in time captivated me & sparked my love of pictures & photography. His photographs were framed & hung on his walls proudly & placed in his albums with pride. My hope is that this website can now inherently represent those treasured walls & albums by preserving his work & commemorating his memory with the legacy he leaves behind.
